They could have kept close to the coast as they made their way up to the western province of Connaught but Fiona suggested they cut some time from there journey and head North through the forests of Tipperary.

“King Eoghanachta is not our ally but he is not an enemy either. I feel he will be kind and give us save passage through his lands given our current quest,” she told them.

They agreed and started to head Northwest through a forest of Yew trees. It was thick going through the trees and the grasses were tall. It wasn’t easy for the horses walking in the rocky landscape and they rested often. They could not go straight through to their destination in the West as there were many hills to go around. Staying in the forests and navigating through the meadows seemed to be the logical choice.

Later in the afternoon when they stopped for lunch they spent their time discussing where they thought the cauldron could be hidden.

“It will be near water, this we already know,” Katie thought aloud to herself. Then she remembered reading about Ireland’s abundance of wells and springs when she was in her hometown library.

“Fiona, do you know of any wells in this area?” She asked excitedly. “I bet you they hid it in a well somewhere.”

“There is the Well of Knowledge close to Galway Bay,” she told them. “It will be rough going though. Mauve tends to think she owns everything in the county of Connaught and I suppose she does,” she chuckled, “She is the Queen there.”

“Yeah, I guess that does give her ownership doesn’t it?” Jonathan added as he chuckled as well. Katie just looked at them with eyebrows high. She felt like she was the only sane one there.

“This is serious you two. How are we going to get near there if she is as bad as you say she is Fiona?”

“Lighten up Katie we are just trying to add a little levity to the situation,” Jonathan told her.

“I guess we just have to take it one day at a time and see what happens. Remember that King Eochaid knows where we are and what we are doing. If we got captured I’m sure he would work out some sort of deal with Queen Mauve to release us.” Fiona was now dead serious in her tone. “Hopefully before we rot in her dungeons.”

The three looked at each other with dismay. After a few moments Katie spoke.

“Well, let’s hope that doesn’t happen. We should be moving on now,” she announced trying to be brave. It was difficult for her to lead her friends into what she knew to be a very dangerous region.
